Captain Planet and the Planeteers is an American Enviromentalist television show that aired 113 episodes on TBS from 1993 to 1995. In it, Gaia, the spirit of the Earth summons five special young people from five corners of the globe to protect the Earth from ecological devastation. Each is given a ring; one for Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Heart. When the five powers combine they summon the mighty Captain Planet!

Notes on the Setting[]
The show takes place on an Earth protected by the spirit Gaia and features some futuristic devices. Conceived as taking place in the near future the series kept many elements of the real world in tact- including the Soviet Union from which one of the characters, Linka, originates. However when the USSR was dissolved before Season 3 aired the creators decided to have a similar off-screen collapse occur. The economic fallout of this is latter seen in the episode; Missing Linka.
